How do I love thee, PRADA? Let me count the handbags.
18 December 2007 by Catherine-ElisabethIn a former lifetime, I had a set amount of money I would spend on a handbag: $50 and it must be leather. I typically carried that same bag daily until it wore out. My, how times have changed as I’ve gotten older.
There appears to be some type of designer ladder that a handbag lover is required to climb on their way to the top. I managed to bypass Dooney & Bourke, Coach, Kooba, Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton and in one a giant leap, went from my $50 department store bags into Prada handbags without catching my breath.
What is it about Prada handbags that have so hypnotized me that I’ve sold nearly every other designer bag I own for not measuring up to the Prada standard? I do tend to gravitate towards design houses with decades in the marketplace and a history behind them (hence Gucci, Chanel & Hermes), but why does Prada consistently land on top? A number of reasons. One only has to look at the inventory of online boutiques such as Styledrops to find an answer. Prada handbags come in so many personalities that it’s difficult not to find something to suit one’s mood. Slouchy totes and hobos for your long days of shopping. Elegant clutches for a special evening out. Nylon handbags and backpacks for those cold rainy days where function and utility are the way to go. Structured frame handbags, funky bags such as the heavily studded Trunk Bag from the Fall/Winter collection, there simply isn’t an end to one’s choices.
To this day, I cannot explain my love affair with Prada but I can definitely say we will be celebrating many happy anniversaries in the future, much to the chagrin of my poor confused husband and his empty wallet.

but what is the “distinctive” designer sign on accessories? The logo is enough?
What do you want from your designer handbags?
